For more than four decades, Liberty Entertainment Group—under the leadership of President and CEO Nick Di Donato—has redefined Toronto’s restaurant, nightlife, special event, and cultural landscape. What began as an entrepreneurial vision has evolved into one of Canada’s most successful and innovative hospitality and entertainment companies, recognized for continuous growth, architectural transformation, and international acclaim.
At the centre of this evolution is Di Donato, a University of Toronto graduate who holds a Bachelor of Applied Science and Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.). With over 40 years of design, construction, and foodservice expertise, he has built a career merging engineering precision with hospitality creativity—transforming historic properties and urban spaces into landmark destinations.
Liberty Entertainment Group’s portfolio spans multiple segments of the market, reflecting both breadth and excellence. Signature properties include Toronto’s premier event venues, Casa Loma and the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex; Michelin-recognized restaurants Don Alfonso1890 and DaNico; acclaimed dining destinations BlueBlood Steakhouse, Blue Bovine Steak & Sushi House, Bovine Wine Club, and Cibo Wine Bar (King West and Yorkville); and immersive nightlife concepts including Paris Texas and the timeless cocktail-driven super club Powder Room.
In partnership with Oak View Group, one of the world’s leading stadium operators, Di Donato cofounded Liberty Oak View Entertainment (LOVE)—now one of Canada’s largest stadium hospitality operators. Its first venue, the 55,000-seat Rogers Stadium in Toronto, welcomed close to one million guests in its inaugural year, marking a significant milestone in large-scale premium food and beverage execution in Canada.
Internationally, Liberty Entertainment Group expanded into Miami’s Wynwood district in partnership with world-renowned chef Francesco Martucci, bringing his celebrated wood-fired Italian tradition to South Florida. Now recognized as one of the best restaurants in Miami.
Di Donato’s passion for architecture and design is most evident in his restoration of historic properties. In 2001, the 100,000-square-foot Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex, originally constructed in 1926 and previously used only during the two weeks of the Canadian National Exhibition, underwent a complete transformation and reopened as a year-round event destination.
In 2014, Liberty Entertainment Group entered into a long-term lease to operate Toronto’s iconic Casa Loma as both a historic attraction and special event venue. Under Di Donato’s leadership, more than $18 million has been invested to modernize infrastructure, enhance dining and event programming, and integrate technology to support cultural and educational initiatives—while preserving the integrity of this historic landmark.
Di Donato’s contributions extend beyond business. In February 2019, he was knighted by the Government of Italy and appointed Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia in recognition of his service to the Italian Republic and his promotion of Italian culture abroad. In 2024, he was appointed to the Order of Ontario, the province’s highest civilian honour, recognizing his impact on economic development, tourism, and hospitality leadership.
Throughout his career, Di Donato has received numerous industry distinctions, including the Foodservice & Hospitality Pinnacle Award for Entrepreneur of the Year, Ontario’s Trillium Award for Restaurateur of the Year, BizBash North America’s Top Innovator Award, Toronto’s Construction Association “Best of the Best” Award, and multiple Lifetime Achievement recognitions within the hospitality and nightlife sectors.
A committed civic leader, Di Donato has served as Chair of Canada’s Walk of Fame and as a board member of Destination Toronto, the Toronto Transit Commission, Invest Toronto, Tourism Toronto, and the Toronto FIFA World Cup 2026 Advisory Committee. He has also contributed to numerous philanthropic and community initiatives, including the Development Council for The Hospital for Sick Children, Variety Village, George Brown College, and Toronto Crime Stoppers.
As founder and co-chair of the annual Caring & Sharing Children’s Christmas Gala, which over the years has hosted over 20,000 priority neighbourhood children with the Children’s Breakfast Club. He is also responsible for FoodBall and Destination Kitchen, raising more than $3 million in support of Sinai Health Foundation.
Renowned for creating venues of magnitude, originality, and cultural impact, Nick Di Donato continues to shape Canada’s hospitality and entertainment industry through innovation, strategic partnerships, and a steadfast commitment to excellence.
